Vin Diesel-led Fast X, co-starring John Cena, Jason Momoa, Jason Statham, Brie Larson, Dwayne Johnson and others, has finally crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India. This is the fifth Hollywood film to earn more than Rs 100 crore in India in the post-pandemic world after Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor Love and Thunder and Avatar: The Way of Water Is. Over the weekend, it will surpass Thor Love and Thunder to become the fourth highest-grossing Hollywood film in India post the pandemic.
FastX has done relatively better in India than most countries
100 crore nett in India makes Fast X an easy hit. In his lifetime, the total number would be around Rs 110 – 115 crores. Fast X, thanks to its loyal fans in India, has fared better than it did worldwide. To put things in perspective, Furious 7 grossed as much as Fast X in India upon release, but the 7th installment’s global earnings were double the 10th installment’s estimated earnings in its lifetime. Coming back to the heroics of Fast X in India, it is the highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time, well ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, John Wick Chapter 4 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It is the 9th film to gross more than Rs 100 crore in 2023, following films like Pathan, The Kerala Story, Waltair Veeraiah, Varisu, Thunivu, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Ponniyin Selvan II .

Second Friday – Rs 3 crore
Second Saturday – Rs 5.75 crore

Third Thursday – Rs 1.35 crore

Fast X’s high budget spoils the game
fast x is Budget approximately $340 million excluding printing and advertising costs, and the film’s global gross is expected to be around $750 million by the end of its run. These numbers are not very attractive considering how the franchise has performed over the years and also its budget-to-recovery ratio. The non-theatrical rights to the film can ensure that the film remains solvent but a franchise like Fast X cannot depend on them again and again.
