The monthly sales of Apple BKC and Apple Saket have been between Rs. 22 and 25 crore, respectively, as reported by The Economic Times on Thursday. The report claimed that these numbers are more than double the biggest earnings for an electronics retailer in India outside holiday seasons like Diwali, citing industry experts with knowledge of the specifics.
On its first day of business on April 18, the iPhone maker’s premium store in Mumbai’s financial area, Apple BKC, had over 6,000 customers and sales of over Rs. 100 million. Apple Saket, a store that opened in New Delhi on April 20, apparently had a comparable amount of traffic.
Apple’s strong earnings from its initial Indian stores could be linked to premium pricing of its products, according to industry executives cited by the report. He told ET that sales were “much higher” than Apple’s internal forecasts, and this was in large part due to the higher average selling price (ASP) of Apple goods, which in turn generates more revenue.
Customers, Apple lovers and reporters from across the country attended the inauguration of Apple’s two retail outlets in Mumbai and Delhi, which was hosted by Apple CEO Tim Cook. People waited in long lines outside businesses for hours before they opened, all eager to be the first to shop there. Some Apple devotees even brought their own collections of old Apple computers. After Apple reported a rise in quarterly revenue for the iPhone, CEO Tim Cook declared India this month at a “tipping point”.
