‘Gazab ki timing hai’: BJP takes jibe at Rajasthan CM over zero electricity bill announcement

New Delhi: As Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday announced a waiver of charges for the first 100 units of electricity to all households in Rajasthan, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajendra Rathore said the public “will not fall for” such sudden announcements. ‘. Rathore, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, also said that after four-and-a-half years of “looting the public”, the Congress government is now doing a “gimmick” of waiving the fuel surcharge.

Rajendra Rathore tweeted, “The public will not be fooled by your announcement of sudden waiver of fuel surcharge and other charges in electricity bills. There is a flaw in both your policy and intention.”

He said Ashok Gehlot was “so impressed” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “energetic” address in Rajasthan’s Ajmer on Wednesday that he was forced to announce a late night relief.

“Great timing,” Rathor said.

The BJP leader also said that the Gehlot government should first pay the outstanding amount to the power companies in lieu of the subsidy given to the consumers.

He said, “The public will get the benefit of reduction in electricity bill only when there is power supply. People in urban and rural areas are forced to bear the brunt of undeclared power cuts for several hours.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Ashok Gehlot announced a waiver of charges for the first 100 units of electricity for all households, irrespective of the total consumption per month.

First 100 units of electricity will be given free of cost to families consuming more than 100 units per month. That is, no matter how much the bill comes, they will not have to pay any electricity charges for the first 100 units. he tweeted.

The Congress leader said keeping in mind the middle class people who consume up to 200 units of electricity per month, they will be given the first 100 units free of cost.

Along with this, fixed charge, fuel surcharge and all other charges will be waived for consumption up to 200 units.

Gehlot made this announcement on the basis of the feedback received during inflation relief camps, in which registration is being done for 10 schemes including free electricity scheme.

Assembly elections in Rajasthan are due later this year.
