TSPSC 2023 paper leak! Accused used artificial intelligence to help students cheat in exams

The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) exam suspect, according to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), allegedly used ChatGPT and Bluetooth devices to share answers with applicants for at least two government department recruitment exams.

As per the results of the SIT’s investigation, Poola Ramesh, a Divisional Engineer of Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSNPDCL), is suspected of selling exam questions for Assistant Engineer (Civil) exam as well as using maximum- The up to date electronic tools and artificial intelligence tools to assist some of the candidates in taking the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) and Divisional Accounts Officer (DAO) exams.

At least seven applicants were present in the test room when Ramesh allegedly used technical devices to answer them. According to reports, this is the first time in the dramatic case that the employment of ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-Training Transformer) and other technological gadgets have been made public.

The SIT had on Monday taken Prashant, Naresh, Mahesh and Srinivas into custody on charges of using technical devices to cheat in the test. Investigators are now trying to determine how applicants entered the testing room with electronic devices without being seen at the entrance. They were looking for a tester who could help them get their bluetooth mini earpieces inside the testing room. Ten minutes after the commencement of the exam, it is also believed that the examiner took photographs of the question papers and sent them to Ramesh on WhatsApp.

With the arrests made on Monday, 49 people have now been detained as part of this investigation. Ramesh had obtained the question paper of the Assistant Engineer (Civil) exam from another suspect, Poola Ravi Kishore, a junior assistant in the electrical department. Ramesh sold the stolen exam papers to around 25 candidates for prices ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.

The trial took place on 5 March. Ramesh assisted the candidates for the AEE and DAO tests, which were conducted earlier on January 22 and February 26, using state-of-the-art AI technologies and microelectronics equipment. After receiving the question paper on his mobile device from the test center through an examiner, he and four others used ChatGPT to collect the correct answers. Then he used bluetooth headphones to convey the information to the applicants present in the examination hall. Ramesh allegedly bargained between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh with each candidate.
