Gujarat Titans (GT) fast bowler Mohit Sharma tried his best on Monday night to take his team to a near victory in the IPL 2023 final against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Mohit picked up three big wickets, including the dismissal of the CSK skipper for a golden duck, to help his team win its second consecutive IPL title.
But CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja proved to be the hero in the end as he hit former CSK pacer Mohit Sharma for a six and a four off the last two deliveries to hand MS Dhoni’s side a five-wicket win. Mohit ended IPL 2023 as the second-highest wicket-taker with 27 wickets, behind his teammate Mohammed Shami – who won the Purple Cap.
After the match, MS Dhoni was seen consoling his former CSK teammate Mohit Sharma, a video of which went viral on social media. Dhoni led CSK to a record-equalling fifth win in the IPL in 14 seasons.

Shortly after playing the 2015 World Cup semi-final for India, Mohit had gone off the radar but eight years later, the veteran campaigner is back in the limelight. One may not see him playing 50-over cricket again, but can he maintain his form and fitness to make it into the Indian team in the 2024 T20 World Cup?
It’s a long shot next year with the ICC event taking place in the West Indies and the USA right after IPL 2024, but he has certainly made a strong case for trying out some T20 matches, given the national team’s place in the 50-over world cup. Plays Cup year. One should not be surprised if Mohit partners with Deepak Chahar when India play a five-match T20I series in West Indies and USA in July.
Hardik, who is also expected to captain India in the next T20 showpiece, managed to extract the best from Mohit at the Titans and after performances like this, he will be tempted to deliver another burst at the highest level.
Mohit broke into the Indian team 10 years ago after his exploits at CSK under MS Dhoni, but it is his stint at Titans that he has enjoyed the most. His slower back of the arm ball, cutter and finger keep troubling the batsmen but due to his superior fitness, he also bowls the yorker at a good pace.
