Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has addressed the criticism he faced after he commented on Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s limited overs batting. Amir, who shared his views on Babar’s influence in T20 cricket, revealed that he has often faced severe criticism for his statements. Before the start of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League, Amir had said that bowling to Babar or the tailender is similar to him, as his main focus is always on taking wickets. The statement drew ire from fans and supporters of the talented 28-year-old batsman, who felt it was undermining his batting skills. In response, Aamir sought to clarify his comments.

During his appearance on Geo News show ‘Hasna Mana Hai’, the 31-year-old bowler was once again asked about his earlier statement in the light of the criticism he received. Amir light-heartedly replied, “First of all, Babar is not my ex-fiancé that I would not like him,” poking fun at the constant comparisons between him and Babar. He further added, “Babar has been playing for five years, and we have never had a heated argument. There has always been a mutual understanding between us, and as a junior, he has always respected me.” Amir insisted that his opinion was misinterpreted, saying, “I have always said that he is a great batsman in Tests and ODIs. However, in T20s, I have a different opinion about him. A bowler As for, I do not see Babur.” as dangerous in the T20 format.” He concluded by saying, “If anyone misrepresents this statement, I can only pray for their guidance.”
Aamir had earlier addressed the matter earlier this month, clarifying his stand on his YouTube channel. He said, “I would like to ask those who have misrepresented this matter, to show me an interview where I said that Babar is an average player or a tailender. In all my interviews, I have called him Pakistan’s best player.” batsman, which I am saying from my own mouth and have said in many places. It is difficult to bowl against him in ODIs and Test matches because of his technique. So will I call him tailender? I want to clarify these people Give it.”
He further added, “My point was that whether it is Babar or playing at number 11, it is important for me to take wickets because it benefits the team. For example, if 12 runs are required in the last 2 overs and 8 wickets have fallen. Then tailenders are playing, right? So getting them out is equally important. That was my point. For me, every wicket is important, be it Babar’s or any tailender’s.
