Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will square off against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final of the 2023 IPL edition, which will be a rematch of the season opener and the first qualifier. This remarkable turnaround for the Super Kings comes after they finished 9th out of 10 teams in last year’s tournament. After overcoming injuries and team balance issues, they made it to the finals and hope to repeat their success from 2021, when they won the title after finishing 7th in IPL 2020. The Titans, on the other hand, have shown steady improvement this season with four. Their players are at the top of the charts for both runs scored and wickets taken.
The final match will be held in Ahmedabad, where the toss may not have much impact. In IPL matches played at this venue, the teams batting first and chasing have won 13 times each. However, as we have seen in the playoffs, knockout matches bring a different level of pressure, and despite the recent rain in Ahmedabad, getting runs on the board could make all the difference.

On Friday, 26 May, despite a cloudy day, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first. However, Shubman Gill’s century dashed their hopes. So, the captain who wins the toss in the final may not let rain affect his decision as heavy rain and thunderstorm have been predicted for Sunday in Ahmedabad.
There is a 61 per cent chance of rain in the city on Sunday evening, and it is expected to make an appearance during the match. If required, the game may be delayed till 12:26 PM IST for a 5-over-per-side match. Also, a reserve day has been kept for the final. Although an attempt will be made to complete the match on Sunday, if the full 40 overs are not bowled due to rain, the match will resume from the point of interruption on the reserve day, Monday, 29 May. On Monday playing time will be extended by an additional 120 minutes. If even a 5-over match is not possible on Sunday and play is called off due to rain, the match will start with a fresh toss on Monday.
If there is only a toss without any play on the original match day, a new toss shall be held on the reserve day. However, if rain persists in Ahmedabad, the same procedure will be followed for a shortened game, with 1:20 AM on Tuesday, May 30 being the latest time for the Super Over decider. If rain continues to prevent play on the Reserve Day as well, then Gujarat Titans will be declared winners as they have overtaken Chennai Super Kings in the league stage table.
