According to Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the schedule of the 2023 World Cup will be revealed during the World Test Championship final at The Oval. The board has shortlisted over a dozen sites from across India, and the final shortlist will be shared with the ICC shortly. Shah made the remarks at a press conference after the BCCI’s special general meeting in Ahmedabad, which will host the IPL final on Sunday. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the ten-team World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 5 to November 19, but the BCCI is yet to formalize the schedule, with almost four months left for the competition to begin.

Shah, who is also the current chairman of the Asian Cricket Council, said that an impromptu ACC meeting will be held to determine whether the PCB’s hybrid format is feasible for the 2023 Asia Cup.
On Sunday, Shah will informally meet his counterparts from Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket Board and Afghanistan Cricket Board to discuss the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup is to be held in Pakistan in September but with India reluctant to go there, the ACC is looking for alternatives. The PCB recently proposed a mixed approach to the six-team competition with four of the 13 matches to be held in Pakistan. India, Pakistan and Nepal are all grouped together. Meanwhile, the second group consists of Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

The most difficult aspect of the hybrid approach is the travel involved. Shah said “two or three countries have sent their views,” which will be formally discussed at the ACC meeting in the next ten days.
Shah, as the ACC president, said the Asia Cup should happen this year. Due to political difficulties between the two countries, the tournament has not been held in either Pakistan or India since 2008.
