AI chatbots have entered almost every app in every industry. However, social media has been one of the slowest areas for in-app chatbot integration.
The only attempt so far has been Snapchat’s AI-powered chatbot, which turned out to be a complete flop. Now, TikTok has decided that it wants to try out Generative AI as well.

TikTok’s chatbot named Taco is undergoing user testing in the Philippines.
Watchful.AI, the app intelligence firm that initially discovered the test, posted images of TikTok’s AI chatbot that show Tako will go live at the top right-hand side when scrolling through videos on TikTok.
Another image shows an example of a user using the chatbot to learn more about a video that appeared on their FYP regarding the coronation of King Charles III.
TikTok confirmed the test via Twitter, saying, “We are in the early stages of exploring the chatbot tool with a limited trial of Taco with select users in the Philippines. Taco is an AI-powered tool that enables search and discovery on TikTok.” helps.”

From that statement, it is clear that one of the major objectives of TikTok for the chatbot is to drive more views and engagement for its own content.

In the tweet, TikTok also said that there are currently no plans for a chatbot other than testing, so it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing chatbots in the app anytime soon.
