Gonda (Uttar Pradesh): Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Sunday said he wanted to retire from politics in 2014, but continued with it after Union Home Minister Amit Shah insisted. After reaching Gonda from Delhi, the BJP MP from Kaiserganj interacted with the people by participating in various programs in his Lok Sabha constituency. He is seeking people’s support for the Chetna Maha rally to be held in Ayodhya on June 5.
He said, “I wanted to retire from politics in 2014 itself. But Amit Shah did not allow me to do so during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.”
On the allegations made by the wrestlers, Brij Bhushan said that ‘if someone has decided to lie, he can’.

Veteran wrestlers including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik protested at Jantar Mantar, accusing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment and demanding his arrest.
The wrestlers marched from Jantar Mantar to Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in New Delhi on May 19, their 25th day of protest against Brij Bhushan.
Wrestlers including Punia, Sakshi, Vinesh and others joined the march demanding the arrest of the WFI chief for allegedly sexually harassing athletes.
The protesters are demanding registration of an FIR against the WFI chief and his arrest on charges of sexual harassment. Two separate FIRs were registered on April 28 following the Supreme Court’s notice to the Delhi Police on a petition filed by the wrestlers.
Earlier on April 24, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) would set up an ad-hoc committee to conduct the elections to the Executive Committee of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) within 45 days. To administer the day-to-day affairs of the body including its constitution, selection of athletes and making entries for participation of sportspersons in international events. This committee will function for an interim period till the new executive committee takes over.
Delhi Police has filed a status report on the application filed by women wrestlers against WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for alleged sexual offences.
The court was also informed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the matter.
