In an exclusive interview with Michelle Lee, he talks in detail about his Bullet Train role, reveals a bit about Tiger 3 and also shares his real-life stunt experiences:
Q. How different is your character in Bullet Train from other characters you have played so far?
One. Of the other characters I have played, Bullet Train is short and sweet. It was like, come in, come out, do your job, you’re out. You know what I mean…but this one was really special to me. And I mean, I feel like, my other roles, it’s hard to say because I always do the same kind of roles, like an assassin, rogue who comes in and comes out, it works. It is difficult to say what is different as I do many such roles. But it was really special because I think it was a surprise, and it was very unexpected. It adds another layer to the story for the viewers. So I liked it. I thought it was really funny.
Q. Any unheard experience related to stunts that you have performed that you would like to share with the audience?
One. For this one, it was kind of, I wasn’t quite sure what was going on in its story. I think you can’t, you can’t understand the film until you see and experience it. It’s such a fun time and it’s hard to explain. In general, for stunts, it’s kind of like, hey, we’re going to choreograph it, we’re going to preplan it, but if something changes or if the camera is suddenly behind me and I have to pose for the camera So we just adjust. So, I think it requires a very skilled and experienced stunt person to go into stunts all the time. So, all the stunt guys in the film are great and especially David Leitch, the director. He’s only hired the best people he knows, all his friends, all the people he’s come across. And we all have known him for a long time. So, I think he did a great job with the action, because you know, because how every stunt guy was so experienced, was able to go with the flow and also show the violence that needed to be shown. Well, without getting hurt and all. In general, I had a fun time.
Q. So you also mentioned that most of these roles that you get to play are killer roles. Which is your favorite style? Can you name some movies?
One. I loved Black Widow. I did a small role where I was like a Black Widow who breaks free of you spell and I kind of get the magic release thing from me in a Florence Pugh way. And that was really fun. I shot it in Morocco and fought Florence, who is a fantastic fighter, learns fast, great actress. And, actually, I had a great time in India too. I have worked on Tiger 3. I don’t know if it has another name or not, but it was there when I was working on it. I had a small role in that film, the role of an assassin.
Q. Also, what do you like more – television or movies?
One. More, oh my god, they are so different. They are very different. it’s hard to say. Movies are like lots of money, little time, shoot everything. Big budget, you know, let’s do it. And then TV is like, hey, come on Monday, leave at 5:00, it’s very routine, organized. It’s happening this week, the sequel, it happens, and we’re going to keep it going. And then we’ll just take our time. And you know what I mean? So, and then with movies, you get a lot of preparation. So, we would come and rehearse for weeks. We’ll take everything down. Choreography, this, that. And then for a TV show, it’s like, well, you have 30 minutes. You want to walk through it? Ready. OK, we’ll shoot. They are very different worlds. Both are challenging, both are fun, and both have great products because you know to follow a TV series and really get involved with it and really sink your heart and soul into it and watch it. It’s a different feeling than watching a 2-hour movie where you fly by in two hours and then you walk away and you’re done. I like them both.
> What do you have in store for your fans?
One. There’s a Star Wars series coming. I am very excited about it. I worked really hard on it, worked for six months, shot the entire season. I doubled the lead actress. I don’t even know if I can talk about it or not. Who knows? Because with Star Wars, they are very secretive. So yes there it is.
