A few days before his wedding, Paul, an NRI, is murdered in the fields of Punjab. The murder is investigated by two police officers, Garundi (Barun Sobti) and Balbir Singh (Suvinder Vicky). The two interrogate Paul’s family and acquaintances, finding one clue after another that leads them to uncover what really happened the night of the murder.
what works:
The Fog is raw, rustic, real and gritty. It lives up to its meaning. The show is a slow-burn relationship drama set against the backdrop of a murder, which doesn’t lose its grip even for a while. There is no scene in the show that seems unnecessary. Every scene leading up to the finale has significance. The world that has been created is fascinating. It very effectively delves into themes such as love, sexuality, class, migration and family during the investigation of a murder. Director Randeep Jha is in complete control of the subject matter and is able to extract the best out of his actors. Human dynamism is beautifully explored. The camera work and cinematography is superb and makes the show very entertaining to watch as a viewer. The Fog has the ability to stay in the mind for long periods of time even after being viewed and that is its greatest strength.

There’s practically nothing that doesn’t work in fog.
Display:
Suvinder Vicky as Balbir Singh the investigating police officer is excellent. His screen presence is superb. He plays his part to perfection and is certainly one of the actors in this must-watch series.
Barun Sobti is in complete control of his craft as Police Inspector Garundi. He adapts to the tone and setting of The Fog well and leaves nothing to be desired.
Every other actor adds to the show in one way or the other.
Decision:
The Fog is an instant classic and a show that should be a part of everyone’s watchlist. The way it tries to explore multiple themes and dynamics through ruthless killing in the fields of Punjab is remarkable. The Fog is now streaming on Netflix.
