Manisha Koirala recently spoke about the change in character roles from the lead actress and said that playing Kartik Aaryan’s mother in Shehzada was difficult for her. Koirala explained that she took up the role because she wanted to do more commercial films as she wanted to take a break from serious roles.
In an interview with ETimes, the actress opened up about playing character roles that are on the sidelines rather than at the center and also talked about playing Kartik Aaryan’s mother. She said, “I wanted to be a part of a normal commercial film. I have been doing slightly serious roles and this is different from that. Just because the film didn’t do, doesn’t mean I will leave it.” This. I have seen many failures in my life. Probably more failures than successes, so I wouldn’t do it.”

She explained, “Look, initially it was a bit difficult to switch from lead to character. As a heroine, the whole world revolves around you, but suddenly, when you shift to playing a character, you Start watching a totally different setup. It hurts, but then you realize time has moved on. The good thing is I’m getting great roles, so I take them with a bang. So yeah, it was hard for my ego to handle at first (laughs!) but that’s okay, as you grow up, you learn to be on the periphery rather than the centre.”
Manisha Koirala has been a part of several cult classics over the years and after taking a break from acting in early 2010, she returned to the screen in the 2018 Netflix anthology Lust Stories. In the same year, she played the role of Nargis Dutt in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic.
