Rosseau: Team India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Rajasthan Royals teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal after he ended the first day of their first Test against West Indies with 40 runs at the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica on Wednesday. Jaiswal looked a bit nervous in the early stages of his innings, but soon he started showing his potential with the bat. After watching Jaiswal in action, Ashwin believes the left-handed batsman will produce something ‘special’ in future.
“Jaiswal is a dynamic cricketer, extremely talented. I hope he does great things in his career. I think we are going to see some special performance from him,” Ashwin said after the end of the first day.
While Jaiswal dazzled with the bat, Ashwin hogged the limelight with the ball. His five wickets made him the third Indian bowler to take 700 international wickets. He further explained how adaptation to pitch conditions played a crucial role in the early stages of the game.

“Thought it was a great performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch initially but later it started spinning. Saw on TV also that it turned around later. Had to adapt quickly. It was a bit dry, have to keep the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is about adapting to different situations,” Ashwin said.
Congratulations to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan who are all set to make their Test debut #TeamIndia,

Coming into the match, the West Indies team collapsed on a score of 150. In response to the host team, India’s openers started a positive innings. Despite some early LBW shouts against Rohit, India’s opening stand didn’t pose any problems in the third session. Yashasvi Jaiswal took time to open his account but as soon as he adapted to the pitch conditions, he took on the bowlers with confidence.
He opened his account with a beautiful shot for a boundary. He once again tried to hit another shot for a boundary but the fielder refused him to hit back-to-back boundaries. Rohit, on the other hand, looked assured with his shot selection and defensive approach for most of the third session.
The West Indies bowlers, on the other hand, struggled to be consistent with their line and length. This became evident when the review of an LBW appeal against Rohit Sharma was overruled by the umpire’s call. Both the players would be keen to convert their poor starts into big scores on the second day.
