After Virat Kohli penned a heartfelt note for Rahul Dravid, the Indian head coach has now spoken about Kohli’s Test debut in 2011 and admitted that he used to admire the cricketer even when he was starting his Test career. Saw a special talent in me. Speaking in a video posted by the BCCI, Dravid shared his memory saying, “I remember Virat playing his first Test series. He was that young kid who had done well in ODI cricket and was finding his feet in Test cricket. But you could see there was some special talent there.”
Dravid further said that it was clear from early perceptions that Kohli would have a very successful career in the game. He believed that Kohli could be very proud of his journey. Dravid also expressed his surprise at becoming the coach of the senior team, as it was something he did not expect.
“But it has been good to see him develop from a youngster into a senior experienced player. It was great for me to see that journey. I consider myself as a youth coach who has also started his journey (laughs). So, the dice have turned a bit,’ Dravid said.

Kohli was also present in the video and replied to the coach’s kind words. He said that Dravid has been coaching for a long time and hence his comment about being a young coach is quite modest.
“I never thought that after 12 years, I would be returning to the same place but in different capacities. Life has come a full circle,” Kohli said.
In 2011, India managed to draw the final Test of the series, winning 1–0. This was Kohli’s first series after being very successful in limited overs cricket. He also led India to Under 19 World Cup victory and was also a part of the 2011 ODI World Cup winning team. The 2011 Test series was Dravid’s last Test series in the Caribbean.
