New Delhi: The much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan will be held in Sri Lanka as the Rohit Sharma-led side will not travel to Pakistan, Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed on Wednesday. Contrary to reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will insist on Team India traveling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the agreed ‘hybrid model’ for the tournament will continue.
Dhumal, who is in Durban for the ICC Chief Executives’ Meeting (CEC), confirmed that BCCI secretary Jay Shah and PCB representative chief Zaka Ashraf met ahead of Thursday’s ICC board meeting to finalize the schedule. Did.
“Our secretary met PCB chief Zaka Ashraf and the Asia Cup schedule has been finalized and is definitely going on, as discussed earlier. Pakistan will have four matches in the league stage, followed by nine matches in Sri Lanka, including an India vs Pakistan match and a third game if both teams play the final,” Dhumal told PTI from Durban.

He dismissed reports coming from Pakistani media that India would travel to the neighboring country as claimed in some circles by their Sports Minister Ehsan Mazari. “There was no such discussion. Contrary to reports, neither India is visiting Pakistan nor will our Secretary travel. Only the schedule was finalised,” said Dhumal.
According to reports, the final schedule of Asia Cup 2023 may be released on Friday, 14 July. In all likelihood, India will play Pakistan in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, just like the 2010 edition.
Pakistan’s only home match at home will be against weak Nepal. The other three matches are Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan.
It now appears that the new PCB administration has agreed in principle to the proposed model, and nothing can stop the Asia Cup 2023 from being held from August 31 to September 17.
“It is a good start and there will be more such meetings,” Ashraf told Pakistani media. “We have agreed to hold more meetings and improve ties. It is a good start,” said the PCB chief.
Meanwhile, in the meeting of the Chief Executive Committee (CEC) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) held in Durban on Tuesday, no decision could be taken regarding the regulation of the increasing number of T20 leagues.
Full member boards claimed that these leagues were causing a drain of talent from their member countries. It is understood that the discussion on this contentious issue will continue throughout the week.
Cricbuzz website quoted sources in Durban as claiming that leagues need to be regulated, but the specific form of regulation will be determined during the board meeting.
