Following Australia’s defeat in the third Ashes Test at Headingley, former captain Michael Clarke wants some changes to be made for the fourth Test in Manchester. Clarke was particularly critical of David Warner, who has been dismissed by Stuart Broad on 17 occasions in Test cricket. Warner was dismissed by Broad for the 17th time in the last Test when he was caught in the slips while fishing outside off stump. Speaking on Sky Sports, Clarke said that Australia should not be too worried about the opening combination as they have a whole array of batsmen who can step in and get the job done.
“The No. 1 issue is that you have stuck with Warner, giving him every opportunity, and Broad has still got his number. is it time? If the time comes, I wouldn’t even worry about who opens the batting because you’ve got options,” Michael Clarke said.
Michael Clarke also suggested that Mitchell Marsh, who impressed with a century in the last Test, could be used as the opener or the team could also use Marnus Labuschagne at the No.3 spot. According to Clarke, Travis Head could also be used as a possible opener while Steve Smith could come in at number three.

“I think Mitch Marsh is in good form. If he had to do it, he could do it,” said Michael Clarke. “Alex Carey probably won’t do it because he has to keep, but Travis Head might. Marnus Labuschagne is not scoring as many runs as he should be at No.3. He can open, Smithy can go in at No.3, and Head can go in at No.4,” Clarke said.
The statement came after Australian skipper Pat Cummins said they would look at the surface on offer and then decide on the best playing combination.
