Internet trolls forced Ravichandran Ashwin to publicly wish MS Dhoni on his birthday on Friday. The off-spinner stressed on the potentially “disastrous” consequences of tweeting without wishing him on Dhoni’s birthday, and declared that this would be his last such message.
Tweeting on July 7 without wishing a great man a happy birthday can prove to be disastrous. Happy birthday Mahi bhai. #Disclaimer This will be my last birthday wish for anyone on Twitter. I believe I would stick to wishing or calling them directly.

On this day one of India’s greatest captains Dhoni celebrates his 42nd birthday. Ashwin had earlier shared a couple of tweets regarding other matters: one reacting to Tamim Iqbal’s decision to retire and another acknowledging Ben Stokes’ remarkable innings in the Ashes. Apparently miffed with some fans who trolled him for not wishing Dhoni, Ashwin clarified his preference for wishing people a happy birthday directly. He further noted that the clarification and “disclaimer” were intended for “gossipers” and “storytellers”.
Ashwin tweeted, “Tweeting without wishing a great birthday on 7th July can prove to be disastrous. Happy Birthday Mahi Bhai. #Disclaimer This will be my last birthday wish on Twitter for anyone. I believe.” I will continue to wish him a happy birthday directly or indirectly.” Call them. The disclaimer was for all gossipers and storytellers.”
Former cricketer-turned-pundit Harbhajan Singh also faced trolling in the comments on his morning tweet but later wished Dhoni a happy birthday. “Very exciting times for Indian cricket” – Ravichandran Ashwin
Currently in the Caribbean, Ashwin is preparing for the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies. Recently, in a video on his YouTube channel, he discussed India’s preparation and inclusion of new players in the team.
“We have come early to take 10 days for our preparation and to overcome jet lag,” he said. “Our coach Rahul Dravid puts a lot of emphasis on preparation. If we take care of it, the rest will follow.”
The off-spinner said, “The Indian camp is full of many new and exciting faces.” “We have Mukesh Kumar and I believe Jaydev Unadkat will get a good chance in the series. It’s a very exciting time for Indian cricket.”
