Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Thursday said his team’s focus is on winning the ODI World Cup in India and not on defeating the arch-rivals in the much-anticipated clash in Ahmedabad on October 15.
Pakistan are expected to travel to India for the ICC event, although their participation is subject to government clearance.
He said, “We are not only thinking of playing against India and winning world Cup, If we want to win the ICC title, we are focusing on doing well in every match. Babar said, we are going to play the World Cup not only in India but also in India.

He also said that the infighting in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will have no bearing on the national team’s performance in the ICC World Cup or its earlier engagements.
Asked whether the recent changes in the PCB leadership and selection committee have affected the players, Babar said that his job is to focus on cricket.
Babar said, “We are not focused on what is happening in the PCB. We only focus on cricket. We have the whole schedule of upcoming matches in front of us and we know that to win matches as professionals what needs to be done.”
Asked how much pressure was on the players knowing that they had to travel to India for the World Cup, Babar said that as a team they are ready to play anywhere.
“Wherever the World Cup is held, we have to play there and we are looking forward to the challenges ahead,” he said.
He also said that the Pakistan team is working on its plans for the Asia Cup and the World Cup keeping in mind their strengths and the conditions in the host countries.
The Pakistan captain said that the upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka will be challenging as it marks the start of a new World Test Championship cycle for them.
“In Sri Lanka, we will get guidance from Mickey Arthur as he has also been their coach and knows the conditions there very well,” he said.
Babar also felt that the Test series in Sri Lanka would help Pakistan prepare for the 50-over Asia Cup and the World Cup.
“The formats are different but playing in Sri Lanka-like conditions will help us prepare well,” he said.
