A stellar performance from all-rounder Sikandar Raza powered Zimbabwe to victory against the West Indies in a thrilling World Cup qualifier match at the Harare Sports Club. Electing to bowl after winning the toss, West Indies captain Shai Hope was given a solid start by Zimbabwe opening pair Craig Ervine and Joylord Gumby. They laid a strong foundation for a 63-run partnership before Gumby fell for 26, being dismissed lbw by Keemo Paul. Wesley Madhevere could not contribute much and got out after scoring just two runs. Ervine, who was well worth a half-century, missed out on four runs when he was dismissed by Roston Chase. Sean Williams added 23 runs but failed to convert it into a big score.

A crucial partnership between Raza and Ryan Burl turned the game around. They shared an 87-run partnership for the fifth wicket, which turned the tide in Zimbabwe’s favour. Burl brought up his half-century with 50 off 57 balls, before Akil Hossein claimed his wicket with an lbw dismissal.
Raza, on the other hand, continued his brilliant innings amid falling wickets. The all-rounder brought up his half-century, hitting six fours and two sixes in his 58-ball 68 before Kyle Mayers dismissed him. Blessing Mujarbani provided the final breakthrough for Zimbabwe as they finished with a total of 268 runs.
During West Indies’ chase of the target, openers Brandon King and Mears got off to a strong start, maintaining a positive run-rate. However, Zimbabwe bounced back with two wickets in quick succession. Muzarabani dismissed King in the seventh over before Richard Ngarawa dismissed Johnson Charles, leaving the West Indies struggling at 46 for 2.
After this, Meyers shared a 64-run partnership with captain Shai Hope and also completed his second Test half-century. But Zimbabwe retaliated with a flurry of wickets, dismissing both Meares and Hope in the space of three overs. Meyers was dismissed for 56 off 72 balls with eight fours and a six, while Hope contributed a quickfire 30 off 39 balls with three fours.
Nicholas Pooran capped off his innings well, scoring 34 off 36 balls, before Ngarawa took his wicket with an lbw dismissal. Muzarabani sent Rovman Powell back to the pavilion in the 33rd over and soon after, Tendai Chatara got the first wicket of the day by dismissing Jason Holder. Chatara continued his excellent bowling, dismissing Roston Chase and Alzarri Joseph. In the end, West Indies were bowled out for 233 in 44.4 overs, resulting in a 35-run victory for Zimbabwe. Raza emerged as the standout performer, contributing 68 runs with the bat and taking two wickets.
