Known for his exceptional acting prowess, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan continues to make headlines challenging the new generation of actors even at the age of 80. However, amidst all these high-octane performances, one of Amitabh Bachchan’s all-time favorite characters was the one he played in Don, for which he also won several accolades.
In a recent interview, Amitabh Bachchan revealed some interesting facts about his iconic film.
“When Don was announced, not many people were aware of the term. They knew of an undergarment brand known as Don Banyan. Everyone was very upset as to why a film was named after an undergarment,” he said.
Amitabh Bachchan said, “Don was a name that was not approved by anyone in the market. He never understood the meaning and never felt that a name like ‘Don’ was suitable for the title of a Hindi film.

Don was released in 1978. Directed by Chandra Barot, the film also starred Zeenat Aman, Pran and others. Amitabh Bachchan received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for this film.
The film’s immense popularity prompted filmmaker Farhan Akhtar to remake it in 2006. Titled Don: The Chase Begins, the film starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. The film had other actors including Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani.
