The Indian selection committee unveiled the Test and ODI lineups for Team India’s upcoming tour of the West Indies. There were several important announcements, especially in the Test squad.
Veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who recently made a comeback to the team during the World Test Championship final, was appointed as the vice-captain. However, Cheteshwar Pujara, who had a disappointing performance in the title clash, was dropped from the team. Apart from these, promising young talents, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad were selected for the Test team. However, there was one notable omission that raised eyebrows – Sarfaraz Khan.
Sarfaraz Khan is yet to be included in the national team despite his consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy over the years. After being ignored once again for the West Indies tour, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has openly criticized the lack of clarity from the board regarding Sarfaraz’s absence.
Chopra questioned the BCCI seeking an explanation for Sarfaraz’s repeated ouster and insisted that if the reasons behind his ouster were not related to his domestic performance, then the board should make them public.
Aakash Chopra wants a message to be given to Sarfaraz Khan
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Chopra raised questions about Sarfaraz’s status. He highlighted the excellent figures Sarfaraz has earned in the last three years, which is clearly ahead of his counterparts. Chopra wondered what message does it send when a player of Sarfaraz’s caliber is ignored for selection despite his exceptional performances.
“It’s a question worth asking. If there’s some other reason, something you and I don’t know, make it public. Just say you didn’t like that particular thing about Sarfaraz, and that’s why you’re not Looking into that. But we don’t know if there is anything like that or not. I don’t know if anyone told Sarfaraz about it,” Chopra said.
The former India opener further added, “If you don’t value first-class runs, it leaves a sour taste in the mouth.”
