As the press conference began, the 36-year-old opener raised expectations by admitting that he doesn’t know how much time he has. He humorously remarked, “I don’t know how much time I have here, so let’s do this.” The conference proceeded smoothly until a hilarious moment when Khawaja caught Ayesha scrolling through a journalist’s camera roll. Laughing, he said, “Stop swiping from the camera!” There was loud laughter in the press gallery on this. She assured him, “It’s okay, you can do it later. You can play with Dad’s phone.”

Khawaja then spoke about his emotional experience of scoring a century on the second day. Despite being dropped seven times throughout his career, including during the last tour of England, where he spent three years in obscurity in domestic cricket, Khawaja expressed his gratitude for the recall he got for the 2022 New Year’s Test. He emphasized his excellent form in Test cricket, becoming the highest run-scorer worldwide, scoring 1509 runs at an average of 62.87, including five centuries. However, the perception that Khawaja struggles to perform in England has always bothered him with a past average of 17.78. in country. Yet, with his overnight century, he belied this notion.

Khawaja’s jubilant celebration, throwing his bat in the air, displayed the height of his emotion.
