‘Alan Wake II’ stands out in a sea of sequels
I’m nervous about the fate of Saga in Alan Wake II – and that only makes me more excited for the whole game. It’s a linear, narrative-driven experience first and foremost, and it looks scary as hell. -Jessica Conditt

‘Cocoon’ is worth getting excited about
Cocoon is a game that makes sense right when you play it. This would be a remarkable feat if it weren’t also a game that forces you to use your levels to solve them yourself. It’s the debut title from Geometric Interactive, a studio of people who previously worked on award-winning puzzle platformers. limbo And Inside, I had about a half hour to play the game during its opening at Summer Game Fest 2023, and it stuck with me more than anything I saw at the show. ‘Forza Motorsport’ wants you to drive forever
The long-overdue next title in the motorsport series (it’s been over five years now!) has a bunch of new features, better physics, better AI and looks absolutely fantastic at 4K/60. What’s most interesting about it to me is that it may be the last niche motorsport game, as Microsoft is moving the series to a games-as-a-service model. In the era of Game Pass, this makes perfect sense to me, and I can’t wait to start driving this October. – Aaron Souporis
‘Immortals of Avum’ first look: A little more magic and it could be amazing
when i saw the announcement trailer for and the immortal In the winter of 2022, I was surprised by my interest in the game. I’m still interested and the immortal And I think I’ve found out why. There aren’t a ton of first-person action games that rely on mechanics other than guns – denied, Ghostwire: Tokyo And hexane comes to mind, but overall it’s a small area. that could be a reason Immortal Something fresh comes out, but it’s nice to see a new, AAA-level game that’s single-player and narrative-driven with a contained campaign, rather than the open world of live-service facilities. -Jessica Conditt
‘Lisfanga’ is when hack-and-slash meets tactical time travel
LysfangaThe isometric visuals may conjure up memories of Paatal Lok, but this is a different game altogether. While you’ll still be chopping up monsters and enemies, protagonist Imë combines his spell and weapon combos differently with the ability to turn back time and do it all over again. The second time around, his shadow will continue to cast over enemies from the previous timeline. While some action-game skills help, you’ll be able to beat most levels simply by thinking about them before you act. The controls and playstyle aren’t remotely similar, but Lysfanga reminded me of older Fire Emblem games, where careful planning dictated battles before they even started. Even in this early demo, the game offers some incredibly satisfying moments when all your attacking clones come together and wipe out all enemies in mere seconds. -Matt Smith

Can you imagine gathering 33 players for a 25-minute raid? 33 Amar That’s exactly what it plans to do. channeling the animation style of retro cartoons (and a little of Banner Saga), 33 Amar is a multiplayer roguelike top-down action game from the creators of spiritferrer, I played with five other people in this early build of the game and had a lot of fun, even if some technical issues spoiled the party a bit. I’m excited to play a roguelike as part of a mob, and I look forward to seeing what other character types will be there. -Matt Smith
‘Under the Waves’ is a sad but comforting sea adventure
parallel studio under the waves It’s a calming game. between cheers and jeers crash team rumble Player (presumably staff) nearby, I was diving. Dive deeper and deeper into the inky blue, chasing an abandoned ship’s container as it bounces off rocks, scattering soft toys and revealing a mysteriously abandoned submarine lurking even deeper. While I could be at ease, I also felt a little jittery. In many ways, whether it’s the story that’s yet to unfold or the uncomfortable tension that’s regularly touched upon, it reminds me of fire watchEven if it’s all set under the sea. -Matt Smith
